Abstract:
Rhinovirus infections are common in all age groups world-wide, and they occur throughout the year. We have studied 2,689 nasopharyngeal swabs collected in 2008-2013 in Mongolia. Human rhinoviruses (HRVs) have been detected in 295(11.0%) of samples and 85(28.8%) of patients were co-infected with other respiratory viruses. Human rhinovirus (HRV) was frequently co-detected with bocavirus 21(24.7%), human coronavirus 17(20.0%) and RSV 14(16.5%) respectively. We have tested 57.6% (170/295) of all HRV positive samples of which 117 HRV strains were typed by the VP4/VP2 method and 53 additional HRV strains by 5’UTR method. Among 170 HVR strains typed using VP4/VP2 and 5’UTR regions: 80(47.1%) were HRVA, 76(44.7%) HRVC and 14(8.2%) HRVB.
