10th GABRIEL network meeting group

The Mérieux Foundation and Saint Joseph University of Beirut, in partnership with Lebanese University, organized a symposium on “Hot topics in infectious diseases” as part of the 10th international meeting of the GABRIEL network. The meeting took place at Saint Joseph University in Beirut and brought together more than 100 scientists and speakers, including the 20 member institutions of the GABRIEL network.

The symposium was held on June 18, under the high patronage of the Minister of Public Health of Lebanon, His Excellency Dr. Jamil Jabak, and brought together a wide audience of local and international scientists and health professionals. It included sessions focusing on advances in the areas of antimicrobial resistance, tuberculosis and pneumonia, as well as the role of infectious disease in chronic illness.

June 19-20 were devoted to the GABRIEL network meeting, with presentations and discussions focusing mainly on research on tuberculosis, antimicrobial resistance, fevers and acute respiratory infections.

As in every edition of this international meeting, young researchers presented their work. Two of them were selected to receive the “Young Researchers” prize, which was awarded at a ceremony with Salim Daccache, Rector of Saint Joseph University of Beirut, and Alain Mérieux, President of the Mérieux Foundation.
