8th GABRIEL network meeting group

Description

For the Network’s 8th annual meeting, more than 100 participants traveled to Laos from over 27 countries. They included researchers, physicians, specialists of laboratory diagnostics, university academics and scientists. Participants came from both the public and private sectors.

The first two days of the meeting were set aside for the Symposium on Antimicrobial Resistance, where experts and representatives from Southeast Asia presented the latest updates on AMR surveillance and public health interventions in their respective countries.

The GABRIEL meeting has become the time-honored occasion to share experiences, present new collaborative opportunities, review advances in quality assessment, and discuss the latest scientific developments in infectious diseases. One of the highlights of the 2016 program was the “GABRIEL Young Scientist Award,” an initiative started in 2015 to help boost the career development of promising scientists from low and lower-middle income countries by giving young researchers the opportunity to present their research. Two winners were selected this year for the best presentations.
