This training formed part of his doctoral research on leprosy at the Charles M\u00e9rieux Center for Infectious Disease in Madagascar, supported by a thesis grant from the GABRIEL network.<\/strong>&nbsp;<\/p>\n\n\n\n<figure><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" src=\"\/wp-content\/uploads\/2025\/08\/luca-maharavo-recipient-of-gabriel-grant-889x500.jpg\" alt=\"Three people are standing in front of a roll-up bearing the logo of the GABRIEL Network; the person in the middle is holding the training certificate in his hands.\" width=\"960\" height=\"540\" \/><figcaption><p>Luca Maharavo, recipient of a GABRIEL grant, completed a week of training alongside the M\u00e9rieux Foundation's experts Emilie Westeel and Jean-Luc Berland, in Lyon (France)<\/p><\/figcaption><\/figure>\n\n\n\n<p>For one week, Luca Maharavo was supported by the M\u00e9rieux Foundation experts as he explored the R programming language, used for statistical analysis and data processing, as well as RStudio, the R development environment. The training enabled him to learn about data cleansing, analysis and visualization, discovering how to structure a dataset, spot possible errors, and produce clear graphs so that the results can be interpreted more easily. It helped him to develop his skills in the field, which is crucial for his thesis entitled \u201cDevelopment and Evaluation of New Diagnostic Tools for Leprosy and Other Neglected Tropical Diseases in Madagascar\u201d, which he is carrying out under the joint supervision of the University of Antananarivo and the University of Leiden in the Netherlands.&nbsp;<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>\u201cThe chapters we covered helped me clarify the knowledge I already had, particularly around using basic scripts, organizing my data, and managing code. I also gained a better understanding of how to use\u202fggplot\u202fand\u202fR Markdown, which has improved my data analysis and visualization skills. [\u2026] The session was very enriching, with direct, constructive discussions with the trainers.
